Remember those days! No school. Summer heat. Out until the parents MADE you come inside. Well tonight was the grown-up version of that for me. I came home from work and my friend met me in the driveway with her three kids and two of their friends.
We sat there and talked and the kids played in the pool. They played every made up game we ever thought of as kids. They ate junk food and swam until they were tired then ate some more and then swam some more.
My friend and I talked and watched the sky getting duskier and duskier. My Mother (who is 86 ) came out and watched too. She asked if today was the longest day and my friend Joy said no. Tomorrow. As it got darker we saw fireflies begin to emerge and talked about our time with the fireflies and the freedom of summer.
I told her about going to a friend’s lake cottage last summer and it was like Disney! Fireflies EVERYWHERE. Looked like the Tinkerbell section of the preview for the Sunday night Disney show. All in all it seemed like a much freer time. But tonight seemed free too. No worries, no cares, laughter of children, barking of a very brainless dog everytime one of her children jumped in the pool. Perfection.
I wish a summer night like this for all of you, all of your friends and family many times in your future.
